Injuries are unfortunately part and parcel of sport and that is why there is a GAA/LGFA ruling that all players must be insured before playing.

Our current insurance policy offers players who meet all of the criteria, the cost of  treatment or surgery up to €5,500.

The cost of such treatment has however risen dramatically over the past few years, leaving players to face the prospect of paying any costs in excess of the €5,500 ceiling permitted.

To address this anomaly the club will introduce the following policy with effect from 1st June 2025.

1. Appointments for MRI scans must be referred by a medical doctor.
2. Players needing treatment or surgery must obtain three quotes before proceeding.
3. If any treatment or surgery costs exceed the €5,500 ceiling, the club will contribute a maximum of £1,000 to the overall costs, providing the player meets all of criteria required to claim from the Injury Fund.
4. The club will continue to pay the upfront cost of the €5,500.

If any player has concerns about the limitations of this payment threshold, they may wish to consider taking out personal insurance against sports injuries to supplement any potential shortfall in payments. Some companies who specialise in insuring against sports injuries are given below but we would encourage you to conduct your own research to find the most suitable option, should you decide to opt for personal insurance.
